“…which I command you this day…”
Moses says “this day” to stress the importance of immediate action. God’s word is always timely. The Israelites could not delay their obedience. Moses was giving them a fresh call to live according to God’s will.
Even though these commandments were given in the past, they had to be followed continually.

This part is very important. Obedience gives strength. It’s not physical strength alone, but spiritual and emotional strength too.
When we obey God, we receive His help and protection. We grow stronger in our faith. We have courage and confidence, knowing we are walking in His ways.
For the Israelites, strength was necessary. They were about to enter a land with strong enemies and great cities. They could not succeed on their own. They needed God’s strength, which came through obedience.
“…and go in and possess the land…”
The goal was to enter and possess the Promised Land. This land was a gift from God. But the people had to do their part. They had to obey God and trust Him.
God had already promised the land to them. But to enjoy it fully, they had to walk in His commandments.
“…whither ye go to possess it.”
This final phrase reminds the people that the land was ahead of them. They were close. But their success would depend on their faith and obedience.
Deuteronomy 11:8 Application in Life

1. Obedience Leads to Strength
Just like the Israelites, we face battles. Our enemies may not be armies, but they can be fear, doubt, temptation, and hardship.

2. God’s Commands Are for Our Good

The Israelites were about to enter a land full of blessings. But they had to be ready. Obedience was part of that preparation.
In our lives, God often wants to lead us into new seasons—new opportunities, relationships, and callings. But we must be spiritually prepared. Obeying Him prepares us to handle those blessings wisely.
5. Teach the Next Generation
Though not directly in verse 8, the chapter talks about teaching children God’s laws. We must pass on God’s truth to others.
