The word “Deuteronomy” means “second law.” However, this book does not give a new law but rather repeats and explains the law already given at Mount Sinai. Moses uses this opportunity to remind the people of God’s commandments, His faithfulness, and His expectations for their lives.
Israel’s Journey and God’s Covenant
The Israelites had wandered in the wilderness for forty years due to their disobedience and unbelief. Many from the older generation had died. Now, Moses speaks to the new generation. He reminds them of God’s grace, His mighty works, and the covenant He made with their forefathers—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
In Deuteronomy 10, Moses speaks of the renewed covenant. He tells the people to fear the Lord, love Him, and serve Him with all their hearts. He explains that although God is great and mighty, He still loves and chooses people personally.

“And he chose their seed after them”
Here, Moses explains that God not only loved the patriarchs but also chose their descendants—the nation of Israel. “Seed” refers to offspring, or the children that would come from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
God chose the children of Israel to be His people, to receive His law, His promises, and His guidance. This was not because they were numerous or righteous. Deuteronomy 7:7-8 says:“The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people… But because the Lord loved you…”
God’s choice is based on His love and His promise.
“Even you above all people”
This means that God gave the nation of Israel a special place. Among all the nations on earth, God chose Israel to be His treasured possession. He gave them His laws, His presence, and His covenant. He guided them with His mighty hand and delivered them from slavery.
This choice does not mean God did not care about other nations. But Israel was given a unique role: to be a light to the world and to bring forth the Messiah.
“As it is this day”
This last phrase emphasizes that God’s love and choice were not just in the past. It continued into the present. Even at the time Moses was speaking, God’s covenant still stood. God had not forgotten His people, even though they had sinned.
This shows that God’s love is faithful. His promises do not fade with time.
Deuteronomy 10:15 Application in Life
This verse, while originally given to Israel, contains deep spiritual truths that apply to every believer today.
1. God’s Love is Personal and Delightful
God delights in loving His people. He is not a cold, distant ruler. He is a loving Father who takes joy in His relationship with us.
Just as He delighted in Abraham, God delights in us when we walk by faith. God does not love us because we are perfect. He loves us because He is love (1 John 4:8).
This is important to remember when we feel weak or unworthy. God’s love does not depend on our strength but on His nature.
2. We Are Chosen in Christ
While this verse was spoken to Israel, it also foreshadows the truth of the New Testament. Believers in Jesus are also chosen by God. Ephesians 1:4 says:“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world…”
When we place our faith in Jesus, we become part of God’s chosen people. We are grafted into the spiritual family of Abraham (Romans 11:17-20).
God chose us not because we were special, but because He is gracious. This should fill us with gratitude, not pride.

Parents who walk with God leave a legacy of blessing. Our choices today can open doors of favor for our children tomorrow.
This should encourage every believer to live faithfully—not only for themselves, but for their family and future generations.
4. God’s Promises Are Still True
Moses said, “As it is this day,” to show that God’s love and choice had not changed. Even after the people sinned with the golden calf, God still loved them.
Likewise, when we fall, God remains faithful. His love does not change like human love. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
This gives us hope. No matter what has happened, we can return to God and rest in His love.
5. We Are Called to Respond with Obedience
Right after verse 15, Moses calls the people to obey the Lord, fear Him, love Him, and keep His commandments. Being chosen by God is not a reason to boast—it is a reason to obey.
When we realize that God delights in us and has chosen us, our response should be worship, surrender, and service.
1 Peter 2:9 reminds believers:“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation… that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”
We are chosen to glorify God, not ourselves.
