Nigerian Government Takes Notice of International Bible Institute’s Impact

by Ella

International (MNN) — The International Bible Institute (IBI), launched by Prisoners for Christ (PFC) in 2018, is gaining attention from government officials in Nigeria for its transformative influence on prison populations. Originally established to provide robust discipleship training in developing countries, the IBI now operates six schools in Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Pakistan. Its unique three-tiered program equips inmates for Christian leadership and personal spiritual growth, culminating in church planting and in-prison ministry efforts.

According to PFC President Greg Von Tobel, the Nigerian Department of Corrections is “thrilled” by the noticeable behavioral and spiritual changes among graduates. With over 73,000 decisions for Christ and 2.1 million program attendees globally in 2024, the IBI’s impact is becoming increasingly undeniable.

Costing only $23,000 to operate a six-year IBI program, PFC is eager to expand into regions plagued by violence, trusting the Gospel to bring peace and purpose. The success stories emerging from these institutions—including conversions among Muslim inmates and former terrorists—are reinforcing the Institute’s reputation as a catalyst for spiritual revival and prison reform.

“This is the beauty of IBI,” says Von Tobel. “Souls are being won, and we’re using the current population to win souls.”
